FAQs
Please reach Nairobi before 10 am on the day of departure.
Yes, certainly. Once you have booked your safari, you can contact us and we can add on a variety of accommodation options in Nairobi — both pre and post trip.
Please remember to keep weight to a minimum. Internal charter flights have a maximum weight allowance of 15 kg (approx. 33 lbs) per person, inclusive of hand luggage.
Please note that internal flights are not direct flights and sometimes have stops at other airstrips enroute. There may be slight changes to arrival and departure times.
Avoid regular Samsonite suitcases on safari; instead, opt for a soft duffel bag that can be easily transported in small spaces. If you do not own a duffel bag, simply make sure that your suitcase has soft sides with fold-away handles, as opposed to hard casing.
Kenya is part of the Plastic Ban Club. Visitors are advised to avoid carrying plastic carrier bags or packing plastic carrier bags in their luggage. Plastic carrier items known as “Ziploc bags”, that are specifically used to carry toiletries will be permitted as they are expected to remain the permanent possession of the visitors and are not expected to be disposed in the country.
Kenya requires a valid yellow fever certificate from all foreign visitors and citizens over 1 year of age travelling from an infected area or having been in transit through infected areas (>12 hours) in the last 6 days (this does not include the US). So in case you are travelling from or transiting via another country (apart from the US), do check if this affects you.
However, Kenya itself is a yellow fever-endemic country. While yellow fever is not known to occur in much of the eastern portion of the country and the cities of Mombasa and Nairobi, it has been known to occur in the rest of the country. If your itinerary will take you out of these eastern, yellow fever-free zones, it is absolutely recommended that you be vaccinated.
Moreover, because Kenya is considered an infected area, most countries will require proof of vaccination against yellow fever upon entry for all travelers who have recently been in Kenya.
Most of Kenya lies in a moderate-risk zone for malaria, with the exceptions of the city of Nairobi and the highlands. Risk of transmission is year-round.
Therefore, it is recommended you consult your doctor to see whether you should take malaria prophylaxis before entering Kenya. The course should start 24 hours before entering Kenya and should be taken for 6 weeks after leaving the country (depending on the medication prescribed by your doctor).
Other prevention methods such as using mosquito repellent and sleeping under a mosquito net are also recommended.
To enter Kenya, all travelers must carry a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival, with at least two blank pages for immigration stamps. This requirement applies to adults and children alike.
As of January 2024, Kenya requires all travelers (excluding Kenyan citizens and nationals of East African Community partner states) to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) prior to departure. The application must be submitted through the official portal: 👉 https://www.etakenya.go.ke/en
Please ensure you carry a printout of the eTA before entering Kenya.

Do contact your cell phone carrier if they have any international data / roaming packages that you may wish to subscribe to for the time that you are in Kenya. You can also purchase a calling card locally in Kenya.
Mobile service, specially when you are in the bush, will be spotty at best since you will be remote locations. However, most camps will have Wi-Fi services either in the tents or main areas.
In Kenya, Type G plug type are commonly used. Plug type G (UK type) is the plug which has two flat parallel pins and a grounding pin. Kenya operates on a 240V supply voltage and 50Hz.
The official currency is the Kenyan shilling. Visitors to Kenya should change foreign currency at banks, bureaux de change, or authorized hotels. The easiest currencies to exchange are the US dollar (must be dated after 2006), the British pound sterling, and the euro.
All international visitors to Kenya need to make sure that they have the appropriate medical insurance before they travel. Please also make sure that you are covered for “Repatriation Cover” to get you home to your country of residence if necessary. Insurance coverage is mandatory for this trip.
