Best Camps Great Migration 2025/2026

Few wildlife spectacles rival the Great Migration in Tanzania’s Serengeti — over a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles following ancient paths in search of fresh grazing. The secret to seeing this phenomenon at its best is choosing the right camp in the right location at the right time of year. Since the herds are constantly on the move, camps shift their positions too, from the short-grass plains of Ndutu to the riverbanks of the north. Below, we break down the best Serengeti and Masai Mara camps month by month, so you can be in the heart of the action whenever you travel.

Please do have a look at the map below to have a broad idea how the Migration moves around month on month. It will also give you an idea of the best camps for the Great Migration.

Which is the Best Camp to witness the Great Migration?

The Great Migration is a year-round phenomenon, but the experience varies by season. February–March offers calving and predator action, June–July highlights the Western Corridor, and July–September features the iconic Mara River crossings. By October–November, the herds are once again on the move southward. So clearly, there is no one best camp to view the migration.

Your choice will need to be based on where in the Serengeti – Masai Mara eco-system the migration is at that time of the year.

Best Camps Great Migration 2025/2026

As you can see from the map above, there is no point in being in Southern Serengeti for the migration in July, since all the herds will be in Northern Serengeti.

Having said that, here are the best locations to be in for the migration at various times of the year. Keep in mind that camp luxury levels vary, so its best to get in touch with one of our safari specialists to see what suits your budget and interests best.
